The Go-To Guide for Athens Wine Weekend text over picture of wine glasses

What is Athens Wine Weekend?

First things first, what is Athens Wine Weekend? If you’re a local, odds are you’ve heard of this event that is celebrating its 15th anniversary this year and benefits The Classic Center Cultural Foundation, which awards over $60,000 in grants and hospitality education, performing arts, and visual arts scholarships each year. A spectacular three-day event, Athens Wine Weekend has four signature components – Amuse Bouche on Friday evening, Grand Tasting (with exciting seminar add-on options) on Saturday afternoon, Gourmet Dinner on Saturday evening, and Sparkling Wine Brunch on Sunday morning. This year’s event is taking place February 2-4, 2024. Each with its own vibe ranging from casual to formal, all of the sessions have one crucial component in common – great wine.

Which event is right for me?

One of the best parts about Athens Wine Weekend is how incredibly customizable of an experience it is. Only have a few free hours? They’ve got you. Looking to dive all in for a weekend away? Not a problem.

Amuse-Bouche makes for a perfect date night. With booths from local vendors like George’s Lowcountry Table, Levy, Chops & Hops, South Kitchen + Bar, The Pine Bar, Nothing Bundt Cakes, and more, tapas-style plates are paired with wine for a whirlwind taste-tour of some of the best that Athens has to offer.

Grand Tasting is ideal for large groups of friends or a casual date. Held in the spacious Grand Hall, guests can sip and sample an eclectic variety of wine from around the globe. For early access, exclusive merch, and reserved seating, upgrade to a VIP ticket! For those looking for a more in-depth educational experience, there are a number of unique seminars that take place throughout the Grand Tasting timeslot. With topics such as "Balancing Food and Wine" and "Affordable France," which offers a guide through French reds and whites that won't break the bank, there's something for every wine enthusiast! Add on one or several to suit your interests or buy just seminar tickets if you’d rather bypass the larger tasting room for a more intimate classroom-style experience.

Gourmet Dinner is a multi-course extravaganza. This year’s menu highlights the food and wine of Veneto, the Northeastern region of Italy that houses Venice and Verona. Wines are hand-picked to pair with each course, making this is a delectable dining experience like no other.

Finally, Sparkling Wine Brunch is the perfect way to wrap up the weekend. With specialty mimosas and a breakfast buffet, what more can you ask for?

With individual events ranging from only $10 for seminars to $1,400 for a table of eight at Gourmet Dinner, Athens Wine Weekend is perfect for any budget. Can’t decide on just one event? Make a full weekend of it with the Full Bottle Package that includes hotel accommodations for Friday and Saturday, two tickets to Amuse-Bouche, two tickets to Grand Tasting, two tickets to Premier Seminar "Balancing Food and Wine,” two tickets to the Gourmet Dinner, and two tickets to the Sparkling Wine Brunch or the Half Carafe Package, which includes hotel accommodations for Friday, two tickets to Amuse-Bouche, two tickets to Grand Tasting, and two tickets to Premier Seminar "Balancing Food and Wine." Both packages are sold out for 2024, so keep an eye out next year!

Where to Park

Equipped with its own parking deck, The Classic Center has everything needed to make your arrival at Athens Wine Weekend run smoothly. No need to worry about meters or street parking! There are several deck entrances, but the best level to exit the deck from depends on which event you’re attending. Here’s a handy cheat sheet:

            -Amuse-Bouche (Grand Hall) – Level 2

-Grand Tasting (Grand Hall) – Level 2

-Gourmet Dinner (Athena Ballroom) – Level 5

-Sparkling Wine Brunch (Atrium) – Level 2

For Level 2 exits, walk across Foundry Street and directly into the Atrium. For Level 5 exits, follow the sidewalk in the parking lot past the front of The Classic Center Theatre towards the grey awning. All floors have elevator access, so all parking deck levels can easily access any exit. The deck is open and lit 24-hours, except before UGA Football Gamedays.
